The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Osaka, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher (Specially Appointed Researcher) to develop a digital twin framework for wind turbine blade monitoring using optical fiber sensors bonded to the blade surface.
This position is funded by a joint industry project (JIP) supported by multiple industry partners.
Research focus
Integrating optical fiber sensing, signal processing, structural modeling, data assimilation, and machine learning to support reliable wind turbine blade condition monitoring.
Responsibilities#
- Develop a sensing system using optical fiber sensors bonded to wind turbine blades.
- Develop a digital twin framework for blade condition monitoring based on sensor data, including signal processing, structural modeling, data assimilation, and machine learning.
- Plan and conduct wind tunnel tests for experimental validation.
- Prepare academic papers and present research results at conferences.
- Undertake other duties necessary for carrying out the research project.
Qualifications#
- A Ph.D. degree obtained by the start of employment, or expected to be obtained by that time.
- Knowledge of and research experience in one or more of the following fields is preferred: structural health monitoring; wind engineering or fluid-structure interaction; digital twins; machine learning or data assimilation; and asset management engineering.
- Experience with data processing and numerical analysis using programming languages such as Python or MATLAB is preferred.
- Ability to independently plan and conduct experiments, including wind tunnel tests.
